Dry Foods

TetraMin Pro Tropical Crisps-by Bob Buettner 5/11/99

A new dry food from the well known manufacturer of fishkeeping supplies-Tetra. I like this new food! So do my fish. It is composed of small, round, approximately 1/4" discs of varying colored flakes, the color of which appears to be from dyes used not the ingrediants. These are very strong and resist breaking up much more so than the standard dry "flake food" we are used to and resemble small cereal flakes like Cornflakes. The manufacturer claims that they are made with a low heat process to preserve vitamins and nutrients. While it's impossible to prove this I can say that my fish have remained very healthy since they have been eating this food. These "crisps" as Tetra refers to them stay afloat for a reasonable time and do not break up too fast upon being in the water, so the larger fish get a good protion. as they chew on them some break up so the smaller fish get their share. I noticed no clouding of the water and the "crisps" are dust free. Vibragro-by Bob Buettner 5/11/99

(standard maintenance diet for fish under 4")

I'm always interested in trying a new product that may be "better" for my fish. The Vibragro looked very promising and the container claims "Breahthrough discovery in aquatic dietary needs". This food is composed of very small, hard nuggets with a dark tan color. The first thing I noticed upon opening the sealed container was a lot of dust. Upon feeding my fish with this I noticed that there was a lot od dust floating on top of the tank's surface. The small nuggets sink rapidly and seem to dissolve partially very fast and after a few minutes the tank water had clouded up with the tiny dust particles and the dissolving nuggets! This food also produces an oily film on the water's surface which is difficult to skim off completely. Not good! the fish had no problem getting to the food, but surface dwellers might have a bit of trouble. I no longer use this food due to the high dust content and fast water clouding and oily surface residue. Click here to visit the manufacturer's web site.
